Things I like about summer:
- Shorts and no socks
- No homework
- Light early and late
- Gardening
- Vacations
Things about summer that are driving me mad:
- Vacation planning
- Vacation plan changing
- Having to justify vacation plan changing to change averse husband
Also, we’re ridiculously busy at work. We’re getting ready to move (in two years), so there’s all this stuff going on, and whenever you’ve got a handle on one thing another pops up out of nowhere.
I think I would like to be on vacation.
The trouble with vacation, though, is that it’s at the end of the summer, and after that it’s all over.
Hmph.
On the other hand, the summer students here (including N) are all very sweet and serious, and it’s funny to watch them. On the other other hand, they keep finding things I have to fix, which is annoying.
Also, my cousin and her family are coming this weekend, which means the couch in N’s room has to be available for sleeping, which means it must be possible to walk across her room without stepping on half-emptied suitcases and piles of clothes of indeterminate cleanliness, and the couch itself must be free of detritus. Hmmm. I think I will not think about this quite yet.

No socks! And no coats, hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters! I love summer. Plus, nature is as it should be. Everything is full and lush and green (except those things that aren’t supposed to be green).
Your garden photos are lovely, thanks for posting them! Sending you all the good luck with your summer plans (and re-plans) that has been denied to me with mine (I mean, someone should have the benefit of this elusive luck). Thanks for the sympathy–I’ll be here for you as you navigate the empty nest/new interests/reconnecting deal, along with your doctor Doogie Houser. Happy summer! K.
I miss my socks a great deal. I am bereft without them.
